  • What is Hearts for the Homeless?
Hearts for the Homeless (H4H) is a registered student organization that provides free and informative heart health education events. Our members provide electronic blood pressure machine screenings (as well as EKG, Visual Acuity, and Range of Motion screenings) and heart health information approved by the American Heart Association to the homeless in our communities. Our mission is to serve the needs of people in need within our community while providing opportunities and experiences for our members to connect, learn, and grow.
  • Why should I join?
First and foremost, the work that we do seeks to make a positive impact on underserved people in our community. Also, within hearts for the homeless are opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience, develop technical and interpersonal skills, network, gain clinical and general volunteer hours, meet new people, and leadership opportunities as well!
  • How do I join?
Click on the Join tab and follow the steps on how to join!
  • Why do we have dues?
Our member dues are necessary to keep the organization going. The dues go towards blood pressure machines, sanitation supplies, member t-shirts, and other necessary operational expenses. These are ultimately to be able to continue to provide opportunities to our members.
  • How do I get trained?
All members must be trained before attending screening events with H4H to ensure that they are comfortable and able to take blood pressures and interact with patients. To get trained, check out the training page. After being trained, members will have to take a short quiz to verify.
  • What do we do at screenings?
We hold our screenings in downtown Orlando in partnership with the Christian Service Center every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 - 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 - 11 a.m. We also hold screenings at Free Community Dinner, located in Winter Park, on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. and Hope Helps, located in Oviedo, on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. During these events, we provide BP, visual acuity, EKG, and Range of Motion screenings to historically underserved communities, while distributing important educational resources. At some screenings, we may also give away other supplies such as clothing or hygiene products collected from our donation drives!
  • When are the meetings?
We have one general body meeting on the first Wednesday of every month in the Student Union. Check out our Instagram for specifics on room and time!
  • Are there any requirements to join?
There are no requirements (GPA, major, etc.) for joining H4H. We welcome all who want to be a part of the H4H community, and we greatly value diversity among our members!
